Rage. Probably political rage. Maybe just personal rage. Lots of sarcasm and cynicism. Also pretty pictures.
Scorpion Queen: Grungy Oil-Slicked Black Glitter Eye
I wanted to do a dark, grungy eye that would be edgy but also quite pretty, so I combined a matte charcoal eye with a pop of vibrant green and lots of multi-colored glitter for a petroleum-like effect in the light.
You will need:
- Black pencil or cream shadow
- Charcoal, grey, or black matte shadow
- Pale golden-green shadow
- Multi-colored glitter (preferably a dark shade)
- glitter sealant or eye drops
Step 1: Cover the entire lid with black pencil, avoiding just the innermost corner of the eye. Don’t blend up past the socket line or it will be a little too much.
Step 2: Using a flat brush, smudge out the endges of the black so it diffuses outwards just past the hollow of the socket line. This is where it’s better to use a cream shadow or black pencil that doesn’t set and dry quickly, because you won’t be able to smudge it out nicely.
Step 3: Run the black along the lower lash line and smudge it out as well. The more smudged out and the lower the black goes, the more grungy the look. (As if you slept in your makeup, or it smeared downwards slightly.)
Step 4: Using a pale golden green (MAC Golden Olive pigment), I brightened the inner corners of the eyes. This is an important step for those with close-set eyes. You want to use a bright shade because the black beneath it will darken the color slightly.
Then use a matte charcoal shade (I used my trusty BH Cosmetics MS17 eyeshadow pan) and pack that down the center of the lid, and out along the socket line as well. This last step creates a “border” for the eye makeup, because I’m using a dark glitter and I don’t want to see specks of black against pale skin later.
The glitter I chose is a dark multi-colored one that flashes multiple colors in the light. If you’re not able to get hold of something similar, you can always use a regular glitter, but I do still recommend picking a darker shade like a strong blue, deep green, or dark purple, rather than a very pale silver, pink or lilac shade.
Step 4: Dampen your brush in glitter sealant (Ben Nye, Mehron, Urban Decay All Nighter, Too Faced, etc all have versions of this) and pick up some glitter.
If you are using a glitter that is not very dark (e.g. red), it’s better not to pack on too much glitter, because if you coat on too much, it will look like you are wearing red shadow on the outer 1/3 of your lids!
Press the glitter gently onto the outer half of the lids, AND along the outer half of the lower lash line as well.
Step 5: Finish with black mascara! As you can see from the shots right at the top, at certain angles and from the front, you might not instantly notice the glitter. It looks like a dark shadow look. Only when you blink, talk, move your head, will the sudden flash of sparkle catch the eye.
Makeup Tips You NEED to Know!
5 Different Ways to Apply Blush - by GossMakeupArtist
Method 1: HIGH ON THE CHEEK BONES
Round faces, and those wanting to give the illusion that your cheeks bones are higher than they really are.
NOT SO GOOD FOR:
Very Defined cheek bones as it can make the face appear too narrow.
Method 2: APPLE OF THE CHEEKS
GOOD FOR:Thin faces, and those wanting to increase volume in the face.
NOT SO GOOD FOR:
Very found faces, and it can make the face look rounder. Also, those will fine lines or wrinkles as smiling causes the face to “line” and can make blusher (powder) go into the fine lines. Blusher to the apples of the cheeks is a technique known in film and theatre to “age” a person.
Method 3: HORIZONTAL LINES
Thin faces wanting to increase volume in the face. Also good for those with tanned skin.
NOT SO GOOD FOR:
Those with very pronounced cheek bones.
Method 4: CHEEK BONES & TEMPLES
Lifting the face and giving the illusion of higher cheek bones. My favourite way of applying blush. Great with a fake or real tan.
NOT SO GOOD FOR:
Very defined cheek bones as it can over “thin” the face.
Method 5: VERTICAL BLUSH
Widening a thin face. Great for a natural flushed appearance.
NOT SO GOOD FOR:
Overly round faces as it can make the face appear rounder.
At the end of the day, play around, see what looks best. See what looks prettiest. And have fun. It’s only makeup :)
