This Is Your Life Expectancy On a London Tube Map.
Residents of London who live near some London Tube stations live up to 20 years longer than those who live near some other London Tube stations, with fairly clear geographic boundaries of life expectancy related to the average wealth of various neighborhoods.
This reminds me a lot of the study in Washington DC, where if you take the subway out from South East Washington to Montgomery County, Maryland, there’s a 20 year gap in life expectancy - that is, for each mile traveled out from DC, there’s an increase of 1.5 years. Health disparities due to fundamental causes of socioeconomic need can manifest themselves in incredible ways macroscopically.
